Trends Spotted at New York Fashion Week

What’s the best thing about New York Fashion Week? Celebrity-watching? The wows of the runway? Or trend-spotting? It’s definitely trend-spotting. Here are some of the hottest fashion trends to emerge from New York Fashion Week.

The Trend: Thigh-High Slits

This season, it’s all about long hemlines…but that doesn’t mean designers are unafraid of showing a little skin. Or, in some cases, a lot of skin. Expect to see sexy slits aiming all the way to the upper thigh.

Who showed it?

Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, Jason Wu, Cynthia Rowley.

The Trend:Five Colors

  1. Cobalt.
Diane von Furstenberg. Jenni Kayne. Cynthia Rowley. Jason Wu. Who wasn’t showing cobalt at NYFW? This rich color will look great on tons of skin tones.
  2. Green.
Shoot for either olive or emerald–emerald especially made a big splash on the runways with Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, and Diane von Furstenberg all showing emerald showstoppers.
  3. Red.
We’re talking bright red, as seen on Michael Kors, Rachel Corney, Diane von Furstenberg, and Rodarte.
  4. Rust.
Echoing that earthy 70′s vibe, rust was seen on Vera Wang, Vena Cava, Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg.
  5. Mustard.
Again, this is a result of so many designers playing with that 70′s palette. It was seen by Jenni Kayne, the Row, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Cynthia Rowley.

The Trend: Southwestern Wear

Native American prints, geometric Southwestern prints, and ponchos. Don’t dress like a Pocahontas costume, but definitely take advantage of this bold, new trend.

Who showed it?

Band of Outsiders, Vena Cava, Proenza Schouler.

The Trend: Calf-Length Skirts

The maxi still reigns supreme, but calf-length skirts have made a select appearance on the runway. Show off those ankles!
