Designer Jewelry as a Great Gift

Are you thinking of buying jewelry as a gift for someone special?  Can’t decide if you want to purchase a pair of diamond earrings?  Maybe you will buy a pearl necklace?  Then, of course, you did see a nice emerald and sapphire pendant you liked when you were at the mall last week.  All of these would be a good choice for a gift.  But no matter what you decide to purchase, you need to know a few basics to make sure the designer jewelry you do buy is the high quality you desire.

One of the first things you should understand, and I’m sure you have heard the term before, is the word carat and what it means.  Remember when dealing with diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and other gemstones that you are looking at carat and not karat.  Karat is a term that is used when discussing gold.  Carat is a measurement of weight.  It is not a measurement of size.  Make sure you understand this because a smaller gemstone might have more carats than a larger one because it might be denser than the larger stone.

The most popular of the gems that people prefer when it comes to buying jewelry is definitely the diamond.  When purchasing a diamond, you must look at the four C’s.  These are carat, clarity, cut and color.  Also, when you purchase a diamond you should make sure you get a quality setting.  Don’t ruin a beautiful piece of designer jewelry by skimping on the setting.   Other types of gifts you might want to consider are pearls, sapphires, rubies and emeralds.   Other stones fall into the semi-precious category and are not as popular as gifts.
