Act Like a Child

One of the most amazing things in this world is children. I love how they are so relaxed and simple one moment and so inquisitive the next. They don’t have to stress about work, so when they play, they really play! They go all out in whatever they are doing, whether it is painting or playing a game or seeing who can run the fastest. They are totally focused on the moment.

I think that as adults we tend to forget how to focus on the moment, so spending time with kids is good for us. When we spend time with children, doing things that children like to do, it is very easy to get caught up in the moment. Try sitting down with a child with various colors of Play Dough and you will soon find out that, even though you are normally not child-like, it’s easy to get absorbed in building all sorts of things like villages and people and farm animals.

Holidays are a great time to get caught up in the moment with children, too. Halloween costumes bring out the child in everyone. You get to live out a fantasy life that’s totally different from your normal one. Whether you are going trick or treating with a kid or just handing out candy, you can find a costume that makes you feel young again, allowing you to get lost in the childlike enjoyment of the festivities.

Christmas is the other season where you can act like a child and get back some of that enthusiasm for life. Go out caroling and sing at the top of your lungs (even if you don’t have the best singing voice). String popcorn, tell stories, or decorate a Christmas tree with a child and enjoy the simple things in life.
